Department of Agriculture Validates IdentiGEN’s GMO Testing Methods
IdentiGEN
recently participated in a series of proficiency trials overseen by the
USDA’s Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration (GIPSA)
. The trials are designed to improve the proficiency of laboratories at
detecting and identifying different GM events (varieties) in maize and
soya samples.
The
Proficiency Program had a total of forty-one (41) participants,
including commercial and government testing labs: Nineteen (19) from the
U.S., fourteen (14) from Europe, three (3) from Asia, three (3) from
South America, one (1) from Africa, and one (1) from Australia.
As
part of the programme each participant received 15 samples; 12 corn and
3 soybean. Laboratories were asked to determine whether either of the Bt11,
CBH351, E176, GA21, MON810, NK603 or T25 events were present in the corn
samples, and Round Up Ready (GTS 40-3-2) in the soya samples. IdentiGEN
scored 100% in all categories.
Results
of the trial are available on the USDA
website.
