IdentiGEN Co-founder to Address Alberta’s Tiffin Conference Series About DNA-based Meat Traceability
LAWRENCE, Kan., Jan. 13, 2009 – Dr. Ronan Loftus, co-founder of IdentiGEN Ltd., a leading provider of DNA-based solutions to the agriculture and food industries, will be a featured speaker at the upcoming Tiffin Conference Series event, “Lessons Learned in the Red Meat Industry,” on Jan. 22, 2009 at Lethbridge College in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada.
An international expert on DNA-based traceability systems in the meat industry, Loftus will discuss how IdentiGEN’s DNA TraceBack® system works to source-verify beef and pork products, why source verification is important and how DNA-based technology is being used in the marketplace.
The Tiffin Conference is a series of two one-day agricultural conferences that provide world-class learning opportunities to progressive primary producers, agri-business and post-secondary agriculture students.
In October 2008, IdentiGEN announced its collaboration with The Government of Alberta’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Prairie Heritage Beef Producers and Quality Foods, a British Columbia-based grocery retail chain, on a pilot program to test IdentiGEN’s DNA TraceBack® system to scientifically track beef from the ranch to the retail store.
